Revisiting the past through pictures can be excruciatingly painful, yet here I am doing it again. Thankfully, like last time, the memories I’ve saved through pictures aren’t stabbing me in the heart with the blues of lost glory days. Only one of them did. Also, I want to post something light and fun that wouldn’t require too much effort and this seemed perfect.
If you’ve missed the first ‘A Trip Down Memory Lane Through Pictures’ you can read it here, and if you want to do this tag, the rules are listed in the original post! Like the original post, I’m continuing with the next set of the ten oldest pictures saved in my phone gallery and sharing the story behind the picture.
Let’s begin!
This is a still from my favourite Bollywood film called Highway. This is the story of Veera Tripathi, a bride-to-be, who is kidnapped by criminals the day before her wedding and somehow finds freedom and joy instead. I believe I was watching this film on either my phone or it was showing on TV. I’m a mountains over beaches person, yet I’ve never actually seen a mountain, and this still always makes me long to actually go see a mountain in real life. This is something I have to do at least once.
I just love this film because I strongly resonate with not only Veera’s story (no, not the kidnapping), but her strong sense of adventure and love of nature. This film reminds me of the creative writing workshop I took in Wales and how I had an effortless knack in bringing adventure to my surroundings be it through climbing rocks, racing on sand piles, wading knee-deep into the river with my peers while a dog chased us (we all wailed like a banshee), pranking my friends with love letters, cleverly problem-solving something I will not mention just in case I get in trouble, even right down to taking on a dare to go sit next to a person who was happily sat by themselves even though there were other chairs around.
I’m not me without the green. Well, I’m still me, but I’m the best me when I have novelty and adventure at my fingertips. I miss my writing buddies, now I sometimes find myself surrounded by people who shriek at anything remotely exciting or, I guess, child-like because they’re too “mature” for that. I still love ’em! Some of them. Despite their prankless hearts. I just don’t understand people who are old at heart. I hope I never lose my evergreen. Also, kind of related, I wish I could be on Impractical Jokers. Put me on the show, I have no fear.
This might be a heavily Bollywood focused post. Anyway, this is a Photoshop edit of a poster from the film Mohabbatein. I don’t think I need to explain the why behind this photo. This masterpiece should be on every Bollywood fans phone.
This is a romance story that I think a lot of people will like so long as they have the patience of a saint because I believe it’s over 3 hours long. But there’s four different love stories and you’re bound to find one that you’ll like! My favourite is Sanjana and Karan.
Now for TV! This is from How I Met Your Mother. Look away if you don’t want any spoilers…
Robin finds out that she can’t have kids, but she keeps the news to herself despite being visibly upset. When Robin comes home, she finds that Ted has decorated the apartment with AC/DC playing in the background to cheer her up. It’s okay if she doesn’t want to confide in Ted, but it’s not going to stop him from trying to make her happy. I don’t normally tear up, but this scene always makes me tear up. And people didn’t want her to end up with Ted! To be honest, she’s great with both Barney and Ted, but I always felt that Barney and Robin just didn’t sit right because they were hardly ever open about their feelings to each other and it’s difficult to understand a relationship like that.
Meme from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai! To all my non-South Asian readers, you have to watch this film! This meme is no joke, it’s basically the gist of the conversation between these two characters.
I found this picture on Instagram and I believe it was on my popular page. This has to be one of the cutest animals I’ve ever seen, if not the cutest. Coincidentally, Veera does the exact same thing in Highway as the Japanese dwarf flying squirrel is doing in this picture.
Kareena Kapoor as Poo in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is one of the most iconic characters in the history of Bollywood cinema. Kajol as Anjali is also iconic. Honestly, watch this film for the women. Poo is the Regina George of Bollywood in this film. This is a must watch film, you have to watch this film at least once in your life… and I promise you that you won’t be disappointed, my non-South Asian friends love it!
What’s happening in this picture is Poo is looking for a prom date, so she has these guys line up to figure out which one to take by rating them out of ten. As you can guess, one of the guys definitely did not take her fancy. She said ‘not applicable’ to his face, and I know it’s mean, but it’s hilarious.
This picture was taken almost four years ago. This is the chocolate mousse from Giraffe and it did not disappoint! It’s the best chocolate mousse I’ve eaten. So far.
A friend from college made this cake for me! You know how everyone hates icing? Well, I hate them too. But. Big but. Big butt. This is the exception. This cake. Guys. Wow. I can’t even write a proper sentence. *deep breaths* Inhale. Exhale:
This is the most delicious icing ever! I fell in love with the icing. Yes, icing. You know how ordinarily icing tastes hard and rubbery? Well, this didn’t. It was soft and its texture was ridiculously creamy. If you can make icing taste delicious, you are a baking genius.
And we finally have a selfie. I wish I had more selfies. I know, I know, what’s wrong with our society, how can we be so obsessed with our appearance, blah, blah. But I disagree. There’s a certain degree that amounts to a healthy obsession with selfies, just the right amount that gives you self-confidence. Having said that, Snapchat filters make me feel bad about my appearance at times, and I need to remind myself that it’s just not possible for any person to look how we so flawlessly look with a Snapchat filter. Forget comparing ourselves to other people, we end up comparing ourselves to how we look with a Snapchat filter. Anyway, social media aside, I’m happy with how I look in real life and that’s all that matters. Also, I would love to see more South Asian bloggers in South Asian attire! Why do we hardly ever see us in South Asian clothes in our profile pictures on Twitter and Instagram? We don’t have to make Western clothes the norm. I’m going to do it one day. One day.
This was taken by my little cousin sister, an amazing photographer, during a wedding which took place at a hotel in Tower Bridge. I can’t remember the name, but it was so beautiful and luxurious inside and I feel like my pose just needed to equal that in some way.
I was playing monopoly with a couple of people. And I thought I’d take a picture of the rules regarding money distribution.
Usually once people play Monopoly with me, it tends to be the last time they ever play Monopoly with me. I become insane. Seriously, actually, properly, madly insane. Have you seen that meme where the monopoly board was flipped over? Yeah, that’s me. I do not come to play when I play monopoly. I’ve toned it down a little. I toned it down last time by feigning a lack of care because I didn’t want to startle some of the kids who were playing with us.
What takes up the most space in your photo gallery on your phone? Memes, selfies, family, nature, or something completely different? What are your thoughts on Snapchat filters? Have you watched any Bollywood films? What’s the most adventurous thing or dare you’ve ever done? What are your tactics when you play Monopoly? Let me know in the comments!

Of course the majority of my photos are landscapes. My wife is camera shy so the majority of my selfies are either me on site with a subject or selfies with my little buddy Scout (My dog).

I do wish I had more landscapes, when I think of it… there’s always opportunities to fill my gallery with my landscapes if I only remember to capture some pictures of it…

I’m an evil Monopoly player. I tend to want to not just beat my opponents but to crush them. To be honest, I can be like this with most games but, with Monopoly, people don’t realise just how ruthless I can get.
I haven’t watched as many Bollywood films as I would like to have done. The most memorable I saw was Main Hoon Na, which involved radical militants taking over a school. I also saw Bride and Prejudice but that didn’t leave much impression on me at all.

LOOL! We can definitely get really blood thirsty when it comes to Monopoly, capitalist greed gets to the best of us.
I love Main Hoon Na, it would be a fairly controversial film if it released today, but one with an important message, for sure, given the fervent nationalism that is rampant in India today. And I’m not surprised with Bride and Prejudice, it’s a well-done film, Aishwarya Rai was perfectly cast, but, overall, it’s a straightforward mainstream film.

There’s nothing wrong with a bit of rampant capitalism, as long as you remember to put it away with the board afterwards 😉
I think films with something to say will always be controversial to some extent — if only with the people who disagree with the message. I certainly enjoyed Main Hoon Na and would be keen to see more films like it.
I agree with you about Bride and Prejudice.

LOOOL! Total mayhem must only operate when playing Monopoly… Amazon’s already taken care of monopolising the entire global market. Oh, those poor small and family businesses.
I guess controversial films are a talking point – look at Green Book! Ah, then I would recommend PK to you, it’s about an alien who visits planet earth and gets stuck, so he has to figure out the roles, but, in the process, he ends up questioning a lot of rules which mainly focus on religion. It’s a great film, very popular in China!

Don’t get me started on Amazon 😉
I keep telling myself that I should support local businesses more and, to an extent, I do. But Amazon is so convenient that I do keep falling back and using it for far too much. This is especially true when it comes to buying presents and I know that with just a few clicks, I can have a gift wrapped, shipped and certain to arrive in plenty of time.
I’ve just looked up PK on the IMDb. It does look interesting — I shall have to see if I can get hold of the DVD.

I understand. Amazon is more convenient after all, we can buy anything at one’s fingertips. Hasan Minhaj, on his Netflix show Patriot Act, spoke about how Amazon has had its fair share of instances where they’ve ripped off the ideas of small businesses and sold them at a lower price. Small businesses can’t afford to lower their prices, so in the end, they suffer. The Amazon Monopoly. It is difficult for the customer, not everyone can afford to pay higher prices, after all. Where I draw the line is books if the author isn’t self-published because, in the long-term, publishers and authors suffer by earning less and if publishers earn less, then they’re far less likely to take on new authors and, being a person of colour, we are already underrepresented and I don’t want to contribute to that.
I think there’s a site called einthusan where you can watch it for free, at least that’s what I’ve heard, it has subtitles as well. If you do watch it, I hope you enjoy it and let me know your thoughts! 🙂

You are absolutely right about Amazon. It’s a monopoly and, like all monopolies, its behaviour towards suppliers will become increasingly predatory. You make a good point about books — as publishers find their margins being squeezed, they will be forced to rely increasingly on big names and safe choices which will inevitably reduce the diversity in fiction.
I found the einthusan website. I haven’t looked for PK yet, but am hoping to find some time to do so over the coming weekend.

I love the squirrel! I just want to hug it and squish it but hopefully not accidentally strangle it.
And the mousse and the cake. Deserts.
Most of my pictures seem to be selfies that my six-year-old cousin took after stealing my phone.

That’s how you know the squirrel is freakin ridiculously adorable. XD
They were awesome.
LOL. Let me guess, are all the pics taken below their chin for some odd reason? 😂

I need a squirrel plushie like that on my desk.
She’s a pretty good selfie-taker, actually. They’re all very dramatic and she has the most adorable smile. I’m jealous of her selfie-taking abilities. I always struggle to hold my hand still and aim it correctly and smile. I’m a bad multitasker.

That’s a great idea… I think I want one now too, but I don’t know if I’m allowed dolls and animal toys as such in Islam. I wish there were more options for pets… we have cats, parrots and hamsters, I think that’s it lol!
I have that same problem! It’s so hard to keep the phone still, I wonder why that is? Maybe, we need to drink more milk for stronger bones. I don’t know. 🤷🏻♀️

Or carry a tripod everywhere. You could even put it on a leash as another option for a pet.

I have a tripod, so I should probably make use of it… that’ll frighten the locals, it’s got peeping tom written all over it. Lol!

It’s insane what I take for granted. I live in the mountains, so I see them every day of my life, but they are absolutely stunning. I love how it’s a dream of yours! (And they ARE better than the beach.)
I can always count on you to post pictures of delicious-looking desserts!
Your South Asian attire is super gorge! And it looks like Gryffindor.

You’re so lucky! And I think that’s the first I’ve had someone live in the mountains. I bet the air must be really crisp and clean as well and significantly less pollution so that’s an added bonus. Unless I have my science wrong!
Paha, it ain’t a meal if it doesn’t include dessert and glad it brings you joy.
Thank you! 🙂 I guess I’m literally repping my house well.

Most of my gallery is pictures of family members and pictures of places I’ve been. There’s a few of me when I was younger and like 1 maybe 2 of me now… haha
I’m not the kind of person who likes to have their photo taken that much 😂
I love the picture by the way. The Monopoly thing applies to my sister. She is an extreme player and is terrifying to play with. I love the selfie as well, you look really pretty mashallah. C xo

Yep, girl knows what she wants.
I’m telling ya, this is the only icing in the world that’s worth it!
Thanks! 🙂

How it’s been so long and I still don’t know Highway is your favourite movie?! I LOVE THAT MOVIE! But that’s an entirely new topic for discussion for another time. And i’m a mountain person too! Nothing beats the peace of a mountain!
That photoshop is hilarious af! I hated Mohabbatein btw! But I love Kuch Kuch hota hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Do i even remember the number of times I’ve seen these movies? NO! Poo is just such a B.I.T.C.H.
And you look absolutely gorgeous in a saree! ❤
We (I, my sister and my two cousins) used to play monopoly ages ago. It was a battlefield. I don't even remember if we ever completed the game.

It’s literally my favourite Bollywood movie ever, I completely get Veera and omg you love it? Yay! Quite a lot of people don’t like it, but I think it’s such an important film and it didn’t get nearly enough credit as it should have and how paedophilia is swept under the rug in desi communities needs to be talked about. I bet you get to see many mountains in India 😞 I’ve never even seen a real mountain but I already know that I prefer mountains over beaches. 😝
Oo, why didn’t you like mohabbatein? KKHH and K3G are the introductory films for every Bollywood fan, the gatekeepers, truly, haha. Do you know why they call her Poo? CUZ SHE’S THE SHIT!!!!!!! Literally every single one of us wanted to be Poo at one point in our lives.
Thank you 💛 HAHAHAHA Monopoly does that to you – it has the capacity to break up families, send people to jail and destroy friendships. That’s why we all gotta stay away. It’s an unhealthy game 😂
