Harry Potter Tag

I just couldn’t resist when I saw this tag circulating on WordPress! I recently participated in the Harry Potter anniversary week and by participated, I mean that I did one of them, and I had a blast listing my top 7 Harry Potter characters. If you missed it, you can view it here.

Which house are you in?

gryffindor

Gryffindor! Home of the brave and the righteous. I think sometimes I try to kid myself because my Slytherin percentage is unusually high and almost strangely close to my Gryffindor percentage, and my Ravenclaw percentage is close to my Slytherin percentage too. In a way, perhaps I’m a Hogwarts House Divergent. I often find people remarking that at first impression, I come across quite Slytherin because I come across cunning, resourceful and intelligent, but once you get to know me, you learn that I’m far too righteous and daring to be anything but a Gryffindor. Whatever cunning I have, my intentions are to use it for a good cause.

What is your Patronus?

manx cat

A Manx cat apparently. I don’t really know much about them except that they are friendly and fierce protectors and something along the lines of not needing a watchdog when you have this watch-cat. To be frank, I don’t resonate with my Patronus because I don’t think I even understood what was going on when I did that test because I kept over-thinking everything and I could even feel Pottermore getting annoyed as it kept urging me to answer. My Animagus is an otter which I relate much more to than a Manx cat.

What is your wand?

wand

Beech wood with a dragon heartstring core, 9 ¾” and brittle flexibility. Beech is meant for those who are open-minded and tolerant, and this wand is capable of a subtlety and artistry rarely seen in any other wood. Dragon wands are allegedly powerful and learn quickly, but are the easiest to turn to the Dark Arts. Professor McGonagall, Fleur Delacour, Peter Pettigrew, Ron Weasley and Sybill Trelawney have wands that are of a similar length to mine. I would add more information about flexibility but if you want more information, do visit the Pottermore website or the pottermoreforum.net. All I will say is that, for the most part, it is quite spot-on.

What would your boggart be?

No idea. I’m going to pick a dementor because they symbolise depression and sometimes the scariest thing can be your own mind (everyday, I’m philosophising).

What position would you play in Quidditch?

A keeper = goalkeeper, beater = defender, chaser = central midfield/striker, seeker = striker and a goalkeeper at the same time but instead catching this tiny ball equals a hattrick. I preferred playing central midfield because they’re the catalysts so therefore I would be a chaser!

Would you be pure blood, half blood, or muggle born?

I would possibly be a half-blood or a muggle-born witch.

What job would you like to have after graduating Hogwarts?

weasley

I’m joining Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes and we’re going to create some potions and charms! And I’m obviously going to get rid of the highly problematic, date-rape drug that is the love potion. Y’all are welcome.

Which of the deathly hallows would you choose?

Originally, I wanted the invisibility cloak, so I could protect myself from danger and save the trouble and worrying we as women fear when walking alone at night but then I remembered I could simply Apparate to my house. The invisibility cloak could also help me discover some good gossip but, you know, I have morals. The Elder Wand would be amazing, but I do think I will mostly use the Accio spell to transport food or use it to potentially reduce prices on clothes (only for the big stores though), flight tickets or anything I like really. Imagine that shopping spree…

Favourite book?

Half-Blood Prince because it’s pure fun throughout (except for that ending) and it made me fall more in love with Luna and Ginny.

Least favourite book?

Prisoner of Azkaban. You cannot imagine my shock when I left the screening and realised that everyone loved it except for me. Unpopular opinion but PoA was plain boring except for when Hermione punched Draco. I don’t think I’m a fan of time travel stories, I do find them weirdly annoying. About Time and The Butterfly Effect are the only exceptions.

Favourite film?

Half-Blood Prince. I loved Luna and Ginny in the book and, hmm, who did they basically cut out and who did they reduce to a doting and subservient stranger in the film? Luna and Ginny, of course. Otherwise, the film was still hilarious, and I loved watching Harry all Liquid Lucked up. Chamber of Secrets is a good second.

liquid luck

Least favourite film?

Prisoner of Azkaban was the only film I didn’t enjoy. Deathly Hallows Two is a close second because the ending was poorly done from the showdown between Harry and Voldemort, Ron and Hermione’s kiss, Snape’s backstory could have been executed better, and the epilogue which, to be fair, was rubbish to begin with anyway. It’s only saving grace was Neville braving Voldemort.

Favourite character?

I can’t pick just one! It will be somewhere between Neville, Harry, Ginny and Luna. I don’t want to or care to hear anything about Ginny being an under-developed character because most of the characters outside of the trio are under-developed anyway but why should that stop us from loving them?

Least favourite/most hated character?

Voldemort. He is the root of all the evil that occurred. Yes, Umbridge is atrocious, but Voldemort is a murderer.

Favourite teacher at Hogwarts?

A tie between Lupin and McGonagall. As much as I love Lupin, McGonagall’s steadiness relaxes me. She’s a rock.

Do you have any unpopular opinions about the series?

I both like and dislike Hermione. I admire the fact that she values courage, friendship and righteousness, but she can be far too close-minded for me. She can be condescending to anything and anyone that is a little different, so I know that we would be bound to lock heads if we met. It would basically become the episode where Phoebe and Ross debate evolution.

  1. Is it bad if I say I kinda hate Gryffindors?! Your least-favourite character is Voldemort?! For me, it would be Cornelius because he would ignore the problems at hand to not find a solution to it.

    1. Whaaaat, no! Gryffindors are so out-and-out righteous and daring, so it’ll always be my favourite house. Does it help that a buzzfeed quiz told me that my sun is Gryffindor and I’m a Slytherin rising?

Dude literally tried to kill a child in front of his mother and then killed the mother in front of the child when she didn’t get out of the way. Umbridge is atrocious but she didn’t do this so I don’t know why people always pick her over Voldemort. The worst after him is Bellatrix because she has no conscience, she’s the wizarding worlds equivalent to Kathy Bates in Misery & replace devotion to Misery to Voldemort.

You know what, I completely forgot how much I hated Cornelius Fudge in OotP, more so than Umbridge. He’s like the old-school guy/girl in the Asian community who pretends that crime isn’t happening under his nose and just wants to sweep it under the rug. Ugh. Thanks for reminding me lol. 🙃

    1. Thank you! 🙂 And no worries, it’s really just a matter of preference really. I’m not a huge fan of time travel & so naturally PoA wasn’t up my alley. But of course, I’m sure time travel fans loved it & I guess in a series about magic, time travel was going to be a theme eventually.
