Quotes for Everyone

Following Tuesday’s trend, I decided that it’s about time to start flaunting the quotes I’ve saved in my photo gallery and by quotes, I mean non-bookish quotes. There is something here that will apply to everyone, challenge your thinking, embrace your freedom and individuality, and hopefully some that make you laugh.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizens Councillor or the Ku Klux Klanner but the white moderate who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice. –Martin Luther King, Jr. False harmony is not real harmony.

There are dreamers, and there are realists in this world. You’d think the dreamers would find the dreamers and the realists would find the realists, but more often than not, the opposite is true. You see, the dreamers need the realists to keep them from soaring too close to the sun. And the realists? Well, without the dreamers, they might not ever get off the ground. – Cameron Tucker, Modern Family. I love realists! And I love Mitchell and Jay!

  1. I like most of these quotes, Soph, but I think the Will Rogers one is my favorite. Gosh, how I miss Scrubs, what a great show that was! Here’s one for you from _The Bone Clocks_ by David Mitchell: “People are icebergs, with just a bit you can see and loads you can’t.” And hell, a bonus quote from same: “Being born’s a hell of a lottery.”

    1. I think it’s one of my favourites too!
The one from David Mitchell is making me think… the less you see, the more you know and the more you see, the less you know? Is that what it means?
A wonderful lottery if you spend that money wisely.

  2. These are some lovely quotes. OMG WINNIE THE BISH I love him sooooo much. When that show had its not-so-good seasons I kept watching for Prank Sinatra. He’s so relatable.

And his relationship with his fur son, Ferguson. ❤

Also was that Scrubs quote from Dave Franco's character!? S9 was the first thing I saw him in and I l o v e d him and still do. Coolcoolcool.

    Some I thought of //

“Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source.” // Iroh
“Sharing tea with a fascinating stranger is one of life’s true delights.” // Iroh
”I know now that no one can give you your honor. It’s something you earn for yourself by choosing to do what’s right.” // Zuko
“The greatest illusion of this world is the illusion of separation. Things you think are separate and different are actually one and the same. We are all one people, but we live as if divided.” // Guru Pathik

    1. He’s the best on that show. ❤️ I like that you relate to him 😉, welcome aboard New Winnie, I’m your commander New Jessica Day for the day! I don’t think the first few seasons were that great, I preferred the later ones because there’s more Winston (and Coach 😍) and Cece… and thanks for that buzzfeed article, it’s just making me miss him more. 😭

      Paha, yep from Scrubs!

Pride quote: 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 pride is the source of shame, pride and self-respect are two different things.
Tea: need to do that, where are you finding these fascinating strangers?
Honor and illusion: 👏👏 we love as if divided… yes, we do, we really do.
PAHA all the yes’s to the foolish one, omg, it takes a lot of courage to be foolish!

  3. I loved this post! We often praise quotes from books but forget quotes/sayings which may be really true for someone.
“You want me to change my life to appease some aunty I’m never going to see? You want me to change my life for Naila aunty?” This is the best and the ones by Gloria and Amber Heard.

    1. I think every desi POC felt that one. This relates to all of us in the Asian community, my goodness. Our lives have been dominated and, in some cases, shaped by: “what will people say?” I would recommend the Netflix special, he’s a Bengali Muslim and speaks about our culture, so I think you’ll enjoy it. 😄
