The Terrible Guest comes uninvited
Has never been invited.
The day stretches to night
And the night stretches to days
But stay It will, either way.
It scorns the sofa It sits on
It scorns the hospitality It feeds on
It is neither pleased with the design
It neither offers any suggestions
It has come to scorn and scorn It will.
It closes all the windows
So no air blows in
It closes all the curtains
So no light beams in
It has come to deprive and deprive It will.
Do I yearn for the Delightful Guest?
It bears Its gifts and promises eternal sunshine
But lives in denial of the coming of sunset.
Do I yearn for the Dependable Guest?
It comes and goes
And understands just so
It promises nothing
But hopes in peace.
It is not a frequent visitor
Though cherished It may be
Delightful and Terrible
Corner, back, and shoo It away.
The Terrible Guest comes uninvited
Has never been invited
But come It will, either way.

Beautiful Sophia…I could literally picture the scene you described unfolding before my eyes.

Thank you, that means a lot. 😊 The Guest is not so much a physical being but more so a tempestuous feeling.

I could see the terrible guest in my mind. It kinda looks like Danny Devito.

😂😂. This is what I love about poetry, everyone has their own interpretation. The Guest is actually my own mind. Also, what’s wrong with Danny Devito? I loved him in Matilda and Austin Powers!

They say he’s a great guy in real life but I will always remember him as the boss on the 70s T.V. show Taxi.
He was always butting in uninvited.

You did great in pointing out this contrast. Terrible or not, there’s always the good and bad side of a person.
Very well penned, Sophia. 😊😊😊

Thank you, your words mean a lot! ❤️ And yes, there is good and bad in all of us… we contain both light and dark. Just gotta learn to roll with it!

If you like, I was going to link to your blog in my next Sunshine Blogger Award so new readers can visit it. There’s no need to take part in the quiz if you’d prefer not to, but would you like your blog to get mentioned so more people are aware of it?

Also I’ve tried out a couple of short stories so far if you’d rather try something a bit more manageable first. Happy reading!

I will be reading them soon (I don’t mind the length, it’s more so that I don’t have as much time as I’d like, but can’t wait to read them). 🙂
